Loetz-vase with bronze mounting, decor Phenomen Genre 413, Johann Loetz Witwe for E. Bakalowits Söhne, Wien, ca. 1902, glass brass
The decor Phenomen Genre 413 is an in-house design produced by glass manufactory Johann Loetz Witwe for the winter exhibition at Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, now MAK Vienna, in 1899/1900.
At first glance, the green, orange and silver fusions look as if colours were running down the yellow glass. This particularly elaborate decor was often used in designs for Viennese glass distributor E. Bakalowits Söhne.
The vessel’s shape is clearly intended for a vase with a mount, as the glass would otherwise have no support. The mounting made of patinated bronze is perfectly matched to the glass with its four indentations, while the filigree feet add a playful touch to this Art Nouveau artefact.
