    Description

Around 1900, at the height of the Art Nouveau movement, the Bohemian glassworks Loetz of Klostermühle developed two defining design elements that would decisively shape its production: finely drawn and combed thread decoration, and an iridescent surface with a metallic lustre. Introduced in 1898, this distinctive technique was grouped under the designation Phänomen glass. Vessels from this series rank among the manufactory’s most technically accomplished, formally innovative, and commercially successful creations.
The present example, decorated in pattern PG 1/158, displays on a metallic yellow ground a combination of two decorative schemes: vertically arranged, segmented “dotted” threads, overlaid with two zones of silver-yellow bands, each combed into six tongue-shaped elements.
