Complete tea service, Josef Hoffmann, Wiener Werkstatte, 1918-1920, silver and ivory, marked
Out of stock
The design philosophy of the Wiener Werkstätte included “the permeation of the entire living space with art and beauty”. The artists and craftsmen of the traditional Viennese manufactory took this motto very literally and produced objects for everyday use from all areas of life. Josef Hoffmann was one of the most important designers of the Wiener Werkstätte. His best-known objects include furniture and tableware. Especially his coffee and tea services enjoy a special status among collectors and in museums. In these works of art, which consist of several pieces, his unmistakable style and the perfect execution of the Wiener Werkstätte craftsmen are particularly impressive.
This tea service was designed around 1918. At that time, precious metals and luxury goods such as ivory were already very rare. According to the MAK, two pieces of this set were produced, one in 1918 and a second in 1920. The workmanship is, as usual, almost perfect. The ivory is undamaged and the silver has been beautifully processed. In addition, our set is absolutely complete.
