Some production books of Loetz survived the eventful history of the company and are the primary source of information for Loetz collectors. Unfortunately, most of the paper patterns of the years 1901-1903 fell victim to a fire. Other documents have been lost in the historical turmoil. This is the reason why not all vases produced have documented patterns or detailed descriptions of decorations. They are thus labeled as “unidentified” decors.
This plastically decorated vase bears such an unidentified decor. It is undoubtedly an object of the Bohemian glassworks, evidenced by the engraved signature “Loetz Austria”. However, the decoration of this rare vase is “unknown” as it is not documented in the known technical literature.
This does not affect its quality. The wonderful color gradient and iridescence alone speak volumes. In the truest sense of the word, the sculptural design of the decor is emphasized. The silver oxide threads are applied in relief instead of being flattened as in other phenomenon genres and accentuate the vase’s shape in a harmonious way.
