Eduard Kasparides studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Josef Trenkwalder, Carl Wurzinger and Christian Griepenkerl. He became a member of the artist’s association Hagenbund and the Gesellschaft Bildender Künste. He is renowned for his magnificent sunsets and atmospheric, almost meditative landscapes.
In this painting Kasparides chooses a characteristic color palette: rich green-yellow contrasts with the purple, pink and blue pastel tones of the evening sky. A streamlet leads us from the birch grove straight into the wood into the background, where in the sky, a majestic cloud wraps around the towers of the church. As covered in a haze, the church, and towers of Klosterneuburg Abbey appear in the far distance. The peaceful evening atmosphere invites the viewer to linger and pause, enjoying the idyll.
