    Description

Gustav Gurschner had a particular preference for combining everyday objects with female figures. In 1906, he designed the sculpture Schalenträgerin (Bowl Bearer), which was also referred to as Sklavin (Slave) in the sales catalogs of the K.K. Kunst-Erzgießerei Wien.
The nude, kneeling woman presenting the bowl evokes ancient depictions of enslaved women carrying vases or other objects. In this design, Gurschner deliberately avoided decorative embellishments, focusing entirely on the form and contours of the body. Crafted from bronze, the piece showcases his mastery of the material.
