Gustav Gurschner (1873-1970) was an Austrian sculptor, medallist and artisan, who, as a founding member of Vienna Secession and the artist’s association Hagenbund, made a significant contribution to Viennese arts and crafts around 1900.
Trained at Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, he spent some time studying in Munich and Paris, before settling down in Vienna in 1898. Throughout his life, Gurschner was a highly regarded sculptor, portraitist and medallist.
Gurschner’s archaic-looking bronze vessels and eclectically designed everyday objects represent a distinctive field of interest among Jugendstil-collectors and are highly sought after.
