    Description

The glassworks of Johann Loetz Witwe Klostermühle constantly experimented with new decorations and different forms. Around the transition from 1900 to 1901, the first vases with applied droplets emerged. In this design element, Max Ritter von Spaun, the owner of Loetz glassworks, was likely inspired by the works of Tiffany. The technically demanding glass applications are more prominently placed at Loetz and feature their own decoration in the form of drawn, iridescent threads. In this spherical vase, the delicately executed five droplets of varying lengths accentuate the smooth curves of the doubly dented glass body. At the same time, they create a contrast to the combed decoration of silvery-yellow threads. This decor variant was among the rarer variations produced by Loetz in their company history and is highly sought after by collectors worldwide. This collector’s item is further enhanced by the “Loetz Austria” signature in the polished pontil mark.
