Rudolf Quittner “From the Normandy” ca. 1906

Rudolf Quittner was an Austrian Impressionist painter. In Paris, he was initially a student of Frits Thaulow, a Norwegian Impressionist landscape painter who lived in Paris. Later Quittner studied with Camille Pissarro and Alfred Sisley. His painting was strongly influenced by the French Impressionists, and he combined Impressionist and Pointillist elements, as can clearly be seen here. In his landscape paintings, which are executed in oil and often in pastel, the effect of light and atmosphere plays a major role. Quittner successfully presented his works in the most important international exhibitions of that time.
From 1905 on, he was a member of the “Gesellschaft der bildenden Künstler Wiens” (Vienna Association of Fine Artists). This large painting was on display titled “From Normandy” at the XXXIII Annual Exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Vienna in 1906. Quittner died at an early age in January 1910. In the autumn of 1910, an estate exhibition of his works was held in the Vienna Künstlerhaus and in 1911 at the Gallery Georges Petit in Paris.
