Description
The design of this important Carnet de bal was created by Antoinette Krasnik for the costume ball of the K. & K. Kunstgewerbeschule Vienna in 1902. Krasnik was one of the most successful graduates of Koloman Moser and a large number of important designs are of hers. During her time at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, she produced designs commissioned by E. Bakalowits Söhne for the Johann Loetz-Witwe glassworks, which are now of great art historian value. Her training at the Kunstgewerbeschule laid the foundation for her future flourishing career as a designer despite being a female artisan in a male-dominated art society of Vienna around 1900. The chased copper with reduced floral ornamentation and lettering was executed by the Kunstgewerbeschule itself, whilst the iridescent glass with papillon decor in the center was produced by the Johann Loetz-Witwe glass works.
