From 1945 onwards, Werkstätte Hagenauer expanded its collection to include whimsically stylized wooden animal figures. A charming example is this pair of horses, skillfully carved or turned from fine hardwood. The addition of real horsehair for the mane and tail introduces a playful contrast to the otherwise simple design.
The natural grain of the wood animates the surface, lending the piece a sense of warmth and character. At the same time, the streamlined, minimalist form reflects the modern aesthetic of mid-century design—where simplicity and imagination go hand in hand.
