    Description

Karl and Franz Hagenauer had a great passion for sports, which is reflected in numerous representations throughout their work. Whether it was the popular skiers or polo players in the early years of the Hagenauer workshop, or later depictions of riders, boxers, and golfers – various athletic activities were captured in lovingly crafted sculptures.
In this piece, Franz Hagenauer presents a caricatured snapshot of a boxing match. Two boxers, with elongated limbs and reduced to their essentials, are depicted in angular, abstracted forms. One boxer has just landed a punch, while the other is on the verge of falling – a dynamic group of figures that captures the intensity of a single moment.

In this work, Hagenauer masterfully reduces physical features into a flat, almost two-dimensional plane, which became characteristic of the later period of the Hagenauer workshop’s production.
The sculpture is made of high-quality, nickel-plated brass, which imparts both an elegant and modern aesthetic.
