    Description

Karl Hagenauer, pupil of Josef Hoffmann and freelance worker for the Wiener Werkstatte, was one of the leading creators of Viennese Design. Until the end of the 1920s, Josef Hoffmann tasked the talented Karl Hagenauer with designs for the Wiener Werkstatte. However, from circa 1930 onwards, his dedicated his whole attention to the Werkstatte Hagenauer.
This design clearly shows the beginning of the rejection of the Wiener Jugendstil and the movement towards Art Deco. The floral ornaments are classical style elements of the Jugendstil while the base and the figurines show a clear reduction of the shape and a progressive trend towards a dynamic form language. The two Hagenauer siblings have elevated this dynamic form language to a new fashion in art.
