Pair of candleholders Karl Hagenauer ca. 1940

If one didn’t know that these candlesticks were an object from Werkstatte Hagenauer Vienna, you could easily mistake them for Scandinavian Mid-Century design due to their sleek, modern design language. The minimalist lines are clearly recognizable as one of the defining stylistic elements of Hagenauer, coupled with perfect execution as can be seen, for example, in the flawlessly soldered candlestick arms. Such elegantly designed objects for daily use fit very well into the modern European design tradition and show that the brothers Karl and Franz Hagenauer had their finger on the pulse of the times with their designs.
