Oval bronze vase with Etruscan ornaments, design Gustav Gurschner, ca. 1907, bronze cast and polished, marked
If there is one vessel that perfectly exemplifies Gustav Gurschner’s style, it could be this oval bronze vase. It features several elements that are very typical of Gurschner.
With its dark patinated and seemingly unrefined surface, the vase’s base appears very archaic. In contrast, the decoration in the upper part stands out more finely. The ornaments in low relief are arranged in three bands around the oval vessel. We can see endless loops, cross ornaments and triskels. Ribbons of pearls separate the decorative bands from one another, also adorning the overhanging rim of the vase.
This beautiful small sculpture was depicted in the December 1915 issue of the Fine Arts Journal.
