    Description

Around 1900, at the height of the Viennese Jugendstil movement, the Bohemian glassworks Loetz in Klostermühle developed two defining elements that would become hallmarks of its artistic production: finely drawn and combed thread decoration, and iridescent surfaces with a distinctive metallic sheen. Introduced in 1898, this innovative technique was collectively known as “Phänomen Glass.” Vessels from this series rank among the manufactory’s most technically accomplished, artistically innovative, and commercially successful creations.
The present vase, executed in the PG 7624 decor, features a deep ruby-red underlay beneath a substantial colourless overlay, encircled with white-veined silver-yellow glass and drawn diagonally eightfold into a striking undulating pattern. Its expressive and unusual silhouette enhances the decorative impact of the surface design, lending the vessel a particularly sculptural presence. The corresponding pattern for this model is documented in the Loetz pattern archive.
