Loetz vase Argus PG 2/351 ca. 1902

The “Argus” decor, created in 1902, is among the most sought-after variants within the Phenomen genre. Characterised by applied silver-oxide “eyes” and finely spun threads of silver granules, this distinctive in-house design ranks among the manufactory’s most technically sophisticated decors.
The silver-oxide eyes appear to float across the upper section of the vase, evoking the shimmering surface of gently moving water. The decor is particularly striking against the rich maroon ground, which gradually lightens towards the base, enhancing the sense of depth and movement. The fluidity of the motif is echoed in the vase’s irregularly formed rim, which subtly recalls the undulating rhythm of waves.
