    Description

Our lidded goblet with grape ornament, designed by Otto Prutscher and executed by J. & C. Klinkosch in 1926, represents an outstanding example of the silversmith’s art of Viennese modernism. This art object was first presented at the Christmas exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Wien in 1926.
The goblet, chased and hallmarked from silver, captivates with its delicate grape ornament, skillfully integrated into the design. It is marked three times, with the “Tukankopfpunze”, which stands for silver after 1922, as well as the hallmarks “800” for 800 fine silver and “JCK” for J. & C. Klinkosch. The Klinkosch company emblem, a knight’s helmet in a high oval, completes the markings. This lidded goblet, marked with model number 260A, was recognized both in the contemporary art scene and in the specialized literature of the time. The design drawing and an original photo are preserved in Otto Prutscher’s archive in the Schedlmayr collection. Further documentation can be found on page 94 of the 1928 edition of Bau- und Werkkunst, a monthly magazine for all areas of architecture and applied art.
This object of silversmithing not only embodies the aesthetic refinement of Viennese Modernism but also the outstanding craftsmanship and innovative spirit for which the silversmith J. & C. Klinkosch was known for.
