    Description

Horse sculptures were a constant feature of the production range of the Werkstätte Hagenauer. From static horse heads to dynamic representations of galloping or rearing horses, numerous variations of the motif were created throughout the workshop’s entire period of production.

The present sculpture is a casting model that served as a prototype for serial production. It depicts a leaping horse with bent forelegs and outstretched hind legs. The dramatically upraised head lends the figure a particularly dynamic and expressive character.

The sculpture is cast in solid brass, and traces of lead filling remain visible in several areas, pointing to ist use as a working prototype. This rare example originated from the model room of the Werkstätte Hagenauer and is further documented by a surviving design drawing.
