Herbert Brandl, born in 1959 in Graz, attended the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Herbert Tasquil and Peter Weibel. He gained international recognition through participation in significant exhibitions such as documenta IX in Kassel in 1992 and the Biennale di Venezia in 2007. Brandl’s artistic work primarily focuses on natural landscapes and scenery. Since 2001, numerous large-scale oil paintings have been created, particularly on the theme of “mountains,” often reflecting the massiveness and grandeur of the depicted subject in a spectacular manner. His gestural and dynamic painting style, characterized by few but precise brushstrokes, brings his motifs to life.
