Female dancer with ribbon, design Franz Hagenauer, executed by Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien, ca. 1955, carved wood and brass, marked
With her leg fully extended and arms gracefully raised, the dancer holds a pose full of tension – a moment suspended in expressive stillness. Her movement seems to resonate in the elegantly curved brass band that winds around her legs like the lingering trace of her choreography.
Franz Hagenauer primarily worked with hammered and cast metal, but also created finely carved female nudes in wood. His works are distinguished by a characteristic interplay of athletic dynamism and stylized elegance. In this dancer too, the fusion of flowing movement and sculptural restraint captivates the viewer – a compositional balance that powerfully conveys Hagenauer’s unmistakable formal language.
