Description

Our 4-flamed chandelier with Loetz shade is an extraordinary designer piece of geometric Viennese Jugendstil. The minimalist design language is typical of the avant-garde designs that characterised the period around 1901 and exemplifies the creativity of the time. Three rectangular rods emerge from a hemisphere and are connected at the bottom by a reduced, twisted ornamental band. At its centre rests a large lampshade by Johann Loetz Witwe in the rare Candia Phenomen Genre 1/78 decor, with six dark blue droplets worked into the hot glass mass and decorated with silver oxide threads on a Candia ground. The ornament continues in a circular movement and encloses the lampshade. The shade was commissioned by E. Bakalowits Söhne. Overall, the design is reminiscent of objects by Gustave Serrurier-Bovy.
