    Description

The centerpiece with Loetz bowl is a beautiful example of sophisticated accessories designed for the refined lifestyle in Vienna around 1900.
Its three-legged bronze mounting is made up of three identical parts, which serve as holding elements for a rather flat glass bowl. In their very decorative motifs, Gustav Gurschner applies a design principle we also see in other of his designs.
The floral patterns are flatly and rhythmically arranged, with their foliage seemingly growing from naturalistic designed branches, clearly showing the influence of French Art Nouveau. However, the strict composition appears to be less playful than many French artifacts dating from the same period.
With its green shade of Loetz-décor “Creta Terresta” and its wonderful iridescence, the plain glass bowl effectively contrasts to the patinated mounting of this Jugendstil-centerpiece.
