Born in Austrian Vorarlberg in 1960, Mario Dalpra enrolled in Arnulf Rainer’s master class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1982. The versatile artist initially worked as a painter, participated in several performances and also created installations.
In 1998 Dalpra began to work on his first wood sculptures and he finished his first bronze works in 2006. In the following years he devoted himself to this technique and bronze sculptures became signature objects in his oeuvre.
His bronze figures often display flowing forms and strong colours. Thus, the “Swimming Figure” is also characterized by fluid shapes. The silver coating of the bronze adds depth to the surface and the sensual component of the organic shape is even emphasized by its silky finish.
