    Description

Otto Prutscher designed these colorful glasses with cut-peel decoration (Schälschliff) for the renowned Viennese glass retailer E. Bakalowits Söhne. They rank among the most outstanding glass creations associated with the refined table culture of Viennese Jugendstil. As early as 1907, they were prominently featured in the prestigious art journal Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration. In the years that followed, they appeared in numerous other publications – clear evidence of their contemporary success and their formative influence on early 20th-century design.
Particularly noteworthy is this variation with a hemispherical bowl: the organically rounded silhouette of the cup forms a striking contrast to the strict linearity of the overall design, highlighting Prutscher’s masterful balance between functionality and decorative expression.
