“Autumn Leaves” Barbara Wallner 2023

The Austrian artist Barbara Wallner, who describes herself as a “seeker,” lives and works in Vienna, where she returned after spending time abroad in Los Angeles and Germany and completed her studies under Helmut Margreiter.
In her work “Autumn Leaves” Wallner combines her distinctive mixed-media technique consisting of oil, acrylic, charcoal, chalk, and sand on canvas, to create a multilayered composition. Her works move between abstraction and nature itself, consistently reflecting the connection between the two. Warm tones of gold, ochre, and browns evoke the transformation of autumn, while the textured surfaces and structures of Wallner’s technique make the depth of a forest more perceptible. The piece does not depict a concrete landscape but rather conveys an emotional atmosphere. Through her bold and impulsive brushstrokes, a dynamic interplay of strength and tranquility emerges, comparable to the rhythmic change of the seasons in autumn.
