    Description

The artistically most successful years of collaboration between Viennese glass distributor Bakalowits and glass factory Johann Loetz Witwe was the period just after 1900. Superb craftsmanship of glass blowing combined with the unparalleled creativity of designers like Koloman Moser resulted in advanced designs.
Koloman Moser designed the vase with its striking conical body and wide rim as part of a group specially commissioned by E. Bakalowits Söhne, Vienna, in 1903. The gradient décor “Vulcan” was exclusively used on vessels produced for Bakalowits.
Groundbreaking modern in its form, this vase is probably one of the most logically consistent and revolutionary designs by Koloman Moser, created in 1903, around the time the Wiener Werkstätte was founded. On its tapered body the color gradient of décor Vulcan is optically refracted by the ribs of the ribbed model, its iridescence magnificently unfolding on the wide plate-rim.
