    Description

Among the various accessories Gustav Gurschner designed for a study one also finds table lamps. He designed some in figural form in the style of French Art Nouveau, but also modern ones like this model. The search for a new design language is particularly evident on this object and makes this Secessionist item so interesting.
Bundled metal strands, fluting and metallic rivets define the shape of this electric lamp. Gurschner may have been inspired by elements of the modern iron construction of his time, known from bridges or steel and glass palaces of the 19th century. Exposed and visible supporting elements determine the design of this object without neglecting the decorative aspect. As in many other of his designs, Gurschner uses bronze here as well, his preferred material.
Curved lines convey a certain lightness, providing a very elegant impression when looked at in profile. An integrated round tray in the lamp’s base furthermore testifies to Gustav Gurschner’s well thought design.
