    Description

This pair of two-flame candlesticks is an outstanding testimony to the early works with stylized, figurative representations and ornaments of the Hagenauer workshop. In Hagenauer’s early works, the influences of Josef Hoffmann and Dagobert Peche are strongly evident.
Three shapes form the base of the candlestick, reminiscent of stacked geometric elements. Delicate strands emerge from it, which in their arrangement result in rectangular shapes. The strict design dissolves into curved lightness towards the top. Here the viewer can see strongly stylized horses to the left and right, and a dog figure in the center, which appeals to the imagination to discover. The design is crowned by two elongated trumpet-shaped candlesticks, which also lean on geometric shapes. On an imaginative voyage of discovery, the candlestick allows a wide range of interpretation in its overall image.
