The design of this vase originates from Robert Holubetz, one of Koloman Moser\u2019s most talented students at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. The vase\u2019s formal language is exemplary of early Vienna Secession style: a softly curved, bulbous body with an elongated neck and freely shaped handles. This design is regarded as Holubetz\u2019s most successful vase form. The vase represents the largest variant of this model.
\nBakalowits sought to have one and the same form executed in various d\u00e9cors in order to offer it across different price categories. The decor shown here, Ph\u00e4nomen Genre 85\/3890, belongs to the highest price tier, as ist production was especially labor-intensive. The opalescent ground is adorned with dense, irregular silver-yellow threads and a single band of brown veining that rises into pronounced, rounded points.
