For its winter exhibition in 1911-12, former Austrian Museum of Art and Industry (now MAK Vienna) commissioned Josef Hoffmann a collection of glass vessels. Our vase’s reduced depiction of bellflowers with foliage, combined with a geometric pattern, perfectly reflects Hoffmann’s design of that period.
It demonstrates state of the art glassblowing-craftmanship as well, because producing such a piece was technically very challenging. The colorless glass body was first underlaid “Neurot”, then got a “Ruby”-red overlay. In a further step, the décor was etched from this overlay with an acid, a process particularly difficult to obtain straight lines and geometric patterns.
Its beautiful, geometric and floral decoration, and this particular design made especially for a museum exhibition, make this vase a very special Viennese Jugendstil-object.

Vase with etched decor, design form and decor Josef Hoffmann, Johann Loetz Witwe, decor “Neurot mit Ruby”, ca. 1911

[414
1684
post-32819","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-johann-loetz-witwe-klostermuehle-en","product_tag-johann-loetz-witwe-en","first","outofstock","shipping-taxable","product-type-simple
["GET
