Willy Eisenschitz is one of the most important Austrian painters of the 20th century. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1911 and moved to Paris early on, where he enrolled at the Academy de la Grande Chaumi\u00e8re. Through the painters of the ,,Ecole de Paris” he found a connection to the Parisian art scene. In Austria he was a member of the Viennese Hagenbund.<\/p>\n
From 1921 Willy Eisenschitz spent his summer months mostly in the French Provence, where he created his light-flooded, southern landscape impressions. From 1951 he also travelled to the Spanish island of Ibiza.<\/p>\n
“Paysage d’Ibiza” dates from this period. Eisenschitz impressively fills the modest motif of the sandbank with color. The lush green of the grass contrasts with flaming red bushes and turquoise- azure blue water. Eisenschitz masterfully captures the Mediterranean light, its colors rich in luminosity and depth. The violet tones used for the sky lend the painting an almost metaphysical dimension.<\/p>\n
Eisenschitz was highly regarded as a painter throughout his life and was member of the Societ\u00e9 Nationale des Beaux Arts.
