    Description

This vase is a particularly striking example of the Titania decor. It was a significant innovation around 1905 and is one of the most elaborate genres ever produced by Johann Loetz Witwe.
The Titania 2534 decor ranks among the most beautiful in this genre. In this vase, a pink thread decoration is drawn with a steel-gray layer of silver glass over a ground colored may-green. The slightly metallic sheen is achieved through an intermediate process of reduction. The exquisite design is rounded off by a coating of colorless glass.
The wieldy corpus of the vase rests on a small, lens-shaped base. The vase grows in diameter toward the top before tapering off—with four indentations—and opening out into its wave-like, quatrefoil-shaped mouth. Once again, the vase demonstrates Loetz’s characteristic unity of sophisticated glass artistry, complexity of color, and the utmost aesthetic quality.
