Monkey Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien ca. 1955

At the end of the 1920s, Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien expanded it’s range to include humorously, and stylized animal figures made of wood. This small monkey is a charming example of that line: crafted entirely from natural, untreated wood, the figure draws it’s appeal from the warm tone and the distinctly visible grain, which enhances the object with a special sense of vitality and tactility.
The design language is highly reduced and geometrically clear. With its rounded proportions, simply shaped limbs, and mischievous facial expression, the monkey appears both playful and graphically precise. A delightful little character that captivates through it’s simplicity, humor, and clarity of form.
